Americans need to be disciplined by the government into behaving properly. That was the message of Secretary of Energy Steven Chu, who today said that Americans need to be told how to act and how to think about the impact of greenhouse gas emissions.
The Wall Street Journal reported:
"The American public...just like your teenage kids, aren't acting in a way that they should act," Dr. Chu said. "The American public has to really understand in their core how important this issue is."This is coming from the same person who, just after last summer's meteoric rise in gasoline prices, suggested that we need to increase gasoline prices to the same level as European nations (he later had to back off the comment).
Tell Secretary Chu that you can make your own informed decisions by...
Emailing him: the.secretary@hq.doe.gov
Calling him: 202-586-6210
You might also ask him if you can stay out past curfew tonight.
Be sure to post the responses you receive in the comments section below.
UPDATE: A spokesman for the Energy Department, Dan Leistikow, said that Chu "was not comparing the public to teenagers. He was saying that we need to educate teenagers about ways to save energy. He also recognized the need to educate the broader public about how important clean energy industries are to our competitive position in the global economy. He believes public officials do have an obligation to make their case to the American people on major legislation, and that's what he's doing."
This response appears to run contrary to Chu's exact words. What do you think about the Energy Department's response to the story? Was Chu actually comparing the public to teenagers?

I hope that this country will be able to work out of these issues, but I am a little afraid that we will go the way of Rome.
I hope those politicians that read this will search there souls and heart and think about what they are doing to this country when they spend money we do not have, are dishonest, won't let us drill for our energy, and do not respect the constitution. You are making this country weak. I must say I do not have much faith in our leaders and do not seem to be able to do much about it even after calling and emailing them. They only seem to think about themselves and do not care about us little guys. I will continue to call, email, and VOTE!
Yes, act responsibly:
Like flying Air Farce One around NYC for a stupid $320K photo op...
Like flying all over the globe, to kiss our enemies, tick-off our friends AND embarass America...
Like the one I read recently; $9000 in fuel, to plant a stupid tree!
Like keeping the lights on in WA-DC, when America would be better off with WA-DC bulldozed into the Atlantic.
Like BURYING Alan Carlin's inconvenient EPA report, countering the "Global Warming evidence"?
Does Chu mean like, dude, like that kind of stuff?
These Gang-green dipsticks are earth worshipers and power freaks. They are pushing their junk "science-religion" on America, to kill our economy and freedom and eventually us.
The earth is a designed and tuned system - look around. The odds of life existing on this planet, without a Creator, are like you know dude like totally staggering to one, dude. This system is capable of some pretty dynamic responses, unlike the Chicken Little "Global Warming", turned "Climate Change", cap & trade monger brains.
Can we stand to use less energy? Yup.
Can we really control the climate? Nope.
Can we follow those who wish to harm America? 53% could, but there is a shift in the works, to fix that.
The Chu-Chu train can move along now. Take Gore, Waxman, and the rest of Gang-green with you.
There, did I act enough like a teenage American?
...Dude, I like hate clicking that like "Submit" button. 'Cause it's so, like submissive, n stuff.

Just who are these guys anyway?
These guys are bound and determined to bankrupt every American with the exception of themselves and do it for the good of all Americans!
The following was written a few months ago but bears resubmission today after this Chu guy disparaged all working Americans who disagree with the current administrations agenda that is taking away Americans futures.
Democrat Congressman Mark Schauer, Democrat Governor Granholm and Energy Secretary Chu were in Battle Creek at the Y-Center talking to children about saving energy. The three gave away the following items during the presentation.
1. An extension cord that 4 appliances could be plugged into. Am I wrong in my belief that 4 appliances plugged into one extension cord would not save electricity and may in fact lead to a fire!
2. An air pressure guage to be used by them to check the pressure of air in vehicle tires.
3. A mercury vapor light bulb that if broken requires hazardous clean up measures.
4. A water conserving shower head.
The common attribute of all of these products is that all the items given away were made in China! This has to be GREAT news for working men and women in the 7th Congressional District and the whole USA for that matter! The Democrat tribute to the working men and women of America, buy Chinese!
Today I learn that the Unions were handing out hard hats to Democrats on Capital Hill yesterday to promote the Union position that calls for eliminating the secret ballot for organizing unions. The hard hats were made, guess where, in China! The Unions don’t even look to buy American. Who the Unions really looking out for anyway?
These Democrat politicians are out there promoting Chinese made products and they should be at work figuring out ways to make American manufacturing competitive with foreign manufacturers.
Please Democrats get back to Lansing and Washington and find ways to get these and other common everyday products made here in the United States at a price we can afford to pay!
My suggestions are:
Cut or eliminate all business taxes across the board. Let’s create jobs, not tax them!
Tax all income received by all Americans at the same rate to cover Federal Expenditures. All Americans need to have “Skin in the game”, as Joe Biden has said.
Government needs to concentrate on making it easier for manufacturers to build and operate factories here for the good of America and American workers.
Sincerely,
Bruce Barlond
Oh sure. The peasants won't be upset about this condescending attitude from our supposed public servants. By the way, aren't we wasting energy by reading the Dear Leader's directives on a computer screen?

Create a demand for American products by purchasing American products or doing without. Or if you do buy something made/grown in a foreign country, buy items marked "Fair Trade."
We can go back to the 50s when everything was "Made in America" and the average annual income was around $5600. Houses were around 1000-1200 sq ft. Families usually had one car, one black & white television (12" screen), one phone (Color black). Vegetables and fruits were seasonal not shipped from halfway around the world. There were no Walmarts, Sams Clubs, Costco or other big box stores.
We all want "the good old days" at today's salary.
