Dear Senator Deeds: Yesterday, American Solutions for Winning the Future sent a letter to you and your opponent in this fall's race for Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, Bob McDonnell, asking that you both take a strong stand in opposition to the national energy tax legislation moving its way through Congress (H.R. 2454). A few hours after American Solutions faxed its letter, Bob McDonnell responded in a press statement indicating that he "firmly oppose[s]" this energy tax legislation, believing that it would "increase taxes and unemployment in Virginia." We wish for you to take an equally as strong position in opposition to this destructive national energy tax and to stand up and protect Virginia jobs and Virginia incomes. As a citizen of Virginia, I do not want my family's annual energy bill to go up by $1,500. As a citizen of Virginia, I don't want my electricity rates to skyrocket upwards by 90% nor do I want the amount I spend on gas to go up by 74%. As an American concerned about my family and my neighbor, I don't want to see 1,000,000 American jobs eliminated each year because of a dumb, job killing law. We can protect the environment without raising taxes and without destroying jobs. We can do better than a job killing national energy tax. Sincerely,
