In the end, American Solutions members made over 50,000 phone calls to the U.S. House, urging their representatives to vote against the Energy Tax. Even though we lost the vote Friday night, the vote (219-212) was much closer than Speaker Pelosi expected.More importantly, we succeeded in pressuring 44 Democrats to stand up for their constituents, buck Speaker Pelosi, and oppose the Energy Tax. This is all good news, and we must build on it.
Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO) came out the other day and said, "I hope we fix cap and trade so it doesn't unfairly punish businesses and families in coal dependent states like Missouri."
This shows there are Senators on the fence, and with enough of us, they can be pushed over the edge.
As of the vote Friday night, we had 150,000 people on our side. We need to double that number for the Senate fight, and we must begin laying the groundwork now.
That means that if every one of us finds one person, we'll beat our goal of 300,000.

If you want to get any support you need to get a mass media blitz on any network besides Fox. You need to simply list out the consequences the tax bill will affect. The great unwashed are led by their noses and if they feel the bill stinks, they will put pressure on their senators to vote against it or suffer the threat of being voted out.
I am trying to speak to unions that will be affected by the energy bill. Coal miners, railroads, teamsters, oil-chemical and atomic workers and others. Think of the difference of how many workers it takes to build and maintain oil refineries, coal power plants and nuclear power plants versus the number to build and maintain windmills and solar farms.
I would also like to ask the union leaders if there members would like to follow the jobs over to China and India.

We need to do more than just encourage people to be against the bill. We need to provide the people with information about the bill. What ARE the real consequences... how will it affect THEIR pocketbook and everyday lives? Talk directly to the people, give the true details and then encourage them to call their Senators with their comments and questions.
What we need are some statistics that show how many jobs will be lost as a result of businesses forced to close down because they can't afford to comply. An estimate of the costs for businesses to comply with the new regulations, along with the costs of the new bureaucracies that will be needed to keep track of it all--particularly when "offsets" are purchased. A comparison of how many jobs will be lost versus how many will be "saved or created" over a fixed time period--say 5-10 years. An estimate of how much prices will go up, and wages down, as a result of this new tax. Then we need to get that information out there. Finally, we need to do something about the RINOs who crossed party lines to support this abusive tax--removing them from committee posts, withholding party re-election funds, or something along those lines.
Remind people that the people of this country are the government and the "representatives" have been hired by us, they are required to answer to us and it is our money that they are spending. I personaly do not mind having to pay taxes there are many essentials that we as a country need, defense, police, fire, emerengcy, roads maintained and a reasonable amount for education, and government office holders. At a time when people are suffering job loss or under payed for their work raising taxes does nothing but add salt to the wound. The Democrats are running amuck trying to get their adgendas passes while they can and are attacking everything that I hold sacred.
It would benefit me greatly in talking with others about this energy bill if we were provided five or six bullets of information about the "truths" of this masked bill. John Boehner spent an hour talking about it before the vote - if some of that info was condensed, bulletized, and made available via a link, it would go a long way in helping me share "the facts" with everyone on my email list. Targeted Advertising on: Carbon rich states that have senators whose job is on the line; States with moderate toward conservative Democrat senators; states with moderate republicans who can't be relied on to be consistant on conservative issues (like Sen Lindsey Graham). The advertising should not be wasted on conservative talk radio since they are already giving "free" airtime to this issue. Do local TV and radio targeted to minorities (the democrats must see this as losing their base rather than a noisy bunch of republicans. The advertising needs to be clear that this is a massive tax that will be passed on through their electric and gas bill and at the pump... the poor man will not be exempted from this tax but will pay a higher percent of his or her income to this tax than the rich will... Robinhood this is not. Make the advertising culturally relavant for the targeted ethnic groups making maximum use of any public figures within that subculture who are oppossed to the cap and tax. Give a number to call their senators. Also targeted internet ads on the same groups listed above.

We need a very simple analysis that shows how "cap and trade" works.
1. Explain the concept. (determine the carbon cap, then create a system whereby carbon credits can be traded--a carbon credit exchange?)
2. Identify the new government agencies that are to be created to administer the program. (a) The carbon limit setting agency, b) the agency that administers the carbon exchange and c) the agency that determines how the carbon purchase money is spent.

We need credible, authoritative, politically neutral sources -and ones that would be familiar to the average American- for this detailed fact sheet on the bill's impact. Conservatives respect and trust the Heritage Foundation report; others will dismiss it as having a conservative bias. We need to reach the "others", our friends and neighbors who are Democrats, Independents, Obama supporters, moderate Republicans with the facts and they don't trust patently conservative sources. Give them sources they will trust-check out the 44 Democrats who voted against it and tell us why. Research the big business and labor organizations that are opposed like the agricultural associations and pass on their estimates of the damage. Even better, politically neutral ecomomic think tanks, highly placed university professors, business gurus, Democratic governors - anyone who could not be dismissed as having an anti-Obama agenda.
Find this info for us, put it in a concise fact & quote 1-2 page format that we can easily email or print and distribute. And get some of these non-conservative voices out there on the airwaves: radio, TV ads - maybe through the Web - great idea to focus on hardest hit areas.
What about town meetings in those areas or across the country? Develop a list of speakers available to local organizers in various states and disseminate through TeaParty websites or other conservative networks. We have a grassroots group and would love to organize such a meeting.
The senator from MO has not done his homework. There is no way to "fix" cap and trade. It is impossible to collect co2 without expending large amounts of energy. The laws of thermodynamics allow you to calculate the amount of energy required. Therefore if you collect co2 the price of energy that is sold to the public will be more costly in order to recover the cost of collecting the co2.
So, if you believe that co2 causes global warming then you are also supporting a costly tax on the public no matter what the bill's provisions are. The point is go by the science!! not someone's belief. It does not matter who said it, what matters is what the data proves! I must point out that the data has evolved and there is now no evidence to support the claim that co2 is causing the global temperature to rise.
You cannot have your cake and eat it too. Or there is no free lunch. If you think you can repeal the laws of thermodynamics then you are more powerful than mother nature. It ain't goin to happen!!

CO2 is PLANT FOOD, not a toxin! Current CO2 emissions are even BELOW optimal levels for maximum plant yield!!!
So if we reduce CO2 emissions, then we also will decrease plant yield potential...imagine the implications! It could truly harm our food production.

I'm just your average mom and housewife and I think there are simple ways to get the word out.
1. We need a copy of this petition....paper copy. It needs to be taken to tea parties across America this Saturday, July 4th. Tens of thousands of signatures can be obtained. In addition, hand out Senators names with phone #s and fax#s. Emphasize the critical nature of this vote and how if it passes our freedoms as we know it will be gone forever. Yes we have to work fast, but patriotic Americans will do this, I'm convinced.
2. Michael Steele needs to stand up and take some $$$ from the GOP and start an ad campaign on television that describes the stark realities of this bill. This will be the best spent $$$ of the year....and maybe, just maybe the GOP will regain some cred.
3. Other organizations...Heritage foundation, American Solutions, Republican Trust also need to cough of the money for this television campaign. Other non partisan organizations need to stand up also with their dollars. The televisions spots need to reflect the lies that President Obama promised during his campaign....and what has now acutally happened. (Show a verbal clip of his promise, then show a clip of his current policy) Find the clip of him stating that if the Cap and Trade Bill is passed it will increase electricity cost by 90%. Those are his words and are powerful.
4. Where are the big businessess? (aka those who are not in bed with this administration). Where are the little businesses...they have the most to lose. I don't know how they can become active. Hopefully, organizations such as American Solutions and others will lobby them to get on board.
5. For me personally, I will be contacting all on my email list and give them their Senators contact info. I will personally be calling people on the days running up to this vote.
6. Almost forgot, I will personally be inundating my senators to the point of being obnoxious.

1. People in the states represented by Bonoo Mack, Reichert, Kirk, Castle, Lance, Lobiondo, Smith (NJ) and McHugh need to organize mass protest against there voting for the bill. E-mail, voice mail, fax and do it now. These are republicans that if they had not crossed over on this bill it would not have passed.

Request your congressman enter or support a bill that would require that every representative will sign a statement that he or she has reviewed the bill and ALL amendments in there entirety and are in substantial agreement and if they have not read the bill and amendment that they are required by law to obstain from voting or required to vote NO.
3. Term Limits - we have to move back to this matter and take back government from people like Arlin Specter that sees his job not to represent based upon beleifs and intergrity but to represent what ever it takes to be re-elected. This must stop. The job is to be a representation for the people and a government by the people. Take our government back. Term limits and control of lobbyist and special interests.
American solutions could use Twitter more effectively by focusing on engaging its audience multiple times per day. Also, you need to expand your network by following more people than follow you. This is one lesson that we could learn from Obama. He has over 1.6 million followers compared to 4,962 for American Solutions. Newt has more at 554,365, but he is only following 90 people! You have to follow more people than follow you for Twitter to work and grow. Sarah Palin has 40,389 followers but only follows 41 people! John McCain has 899,163 followers and only follows 57 people! Mitt Romney has 12,000 and follows just about as many (good), but doesn't post any content! If you look at all of the major Republican players, none of them are playing the social media game right. It is not that hard. Just put one of your staff members in charge of following people, then find out how to engage them with your other content. American Solutions has amazing content, but it needs to be distributed better.
I just looked on Obama's Twitter feed and he was pushing for people to call their representatives as well about Cap & Trade. However, when he sends it out, it goes to 400 times as many people as when American Solutions sends it. Also, it is not just about posting on Twitter or Facebook. You have to send those people to videos, blogs, etc. to act. One strategy that Obama uses is that he got the phone number of many of those on his Twitter Feed and uses that to send text messages. He used that when he announced his VP pick and it worked. He used it again when asking people to call their representatives about Cap & Trade. We Conservatives need to start being as smart and aggressive about using new social media as Obama has.

This is not a pro Obama sight, but an academic look at how Obama has effectively used social media. Definitely worth looking into.
What you must remember is that the majority of citizens are borderline retarded. Most of the time, they rely on their feelings instead of their brains to make decisions. What you need to do is get a famous celebrity who people know and love. This person must be thought of as intelligent, respected, and righteous. This person must be fairly young and attractive while seeming wise beyond his or her years. In order to get people back to the republican/conservative party, you need to get Angelina Jolie. Do whatever it takes. Her father, John Voight, is a very outspoken republican. Some of that had to have rubbed off on her. If you get Angelina Jolie to speak out for your cause, you will see drastic change in the way people percieve republicans/conservatives. Your welcome.
There are so many great ideas being offered here. I would add.. consolidate efforts(and consequently funds) of all the many organizations that are trying to accomplish the same thing. Direct the websites of all of these organizations towards the same petition. Another thing that the American public may find interesting is WHO stands to gain monetarily from this legislation. It's always about personal gain, isn't it?
There should be enough wealthy conservatives out there who could use their just earned good fortune for the cause of conservatism. If I were one of these, I surely would consider the cause as a good way to make good use of any wealth beyond what my estate would need.
In other words our movement needs to educate more people for the sake of the nation, because as it is, the left's funding of progressive liberalism has effectively brainwashed about half the nation into believing utopian, humanist agendas and ideologies are the answer to go forward. As any true conservative knows, this has been and continues to be delusional fantasy that has raised its head again. Worse and of critical importance, the left's movement has and continues to undermine our CONSTITUTION to very dangerous precedents that are an extreme threat to our protected liberty. The natural laws of thermodynamics will not permit the production of cleaner energy from any carbon based fuel without consuming additional energy. To convert carbon based fuels any cleaner fuel like Hydrogen cost more energy than just burning the primary fuel, hence to get "cleaner" energy the net carbon dioxide production must go up, not down. You increase both out CO2 production and if not based upon our indigenous coal reserves the US and world energy demand for oil and natural gas imports go up as a result.
No matter what your handlers told you congressional law or our your eminence do not have any power to change the laws of thermodynamics. We do not need to spend our taxed fortune to find this reality.

Obama yesterday in his speach said California reduced their percapita energy usage by 40%, I question this figure.

Dolores, I wish we had your (Arizona heat) problem here in the northeast. We have had cold and rain for 35 of the past 40 days. Lakes, rivers and streams are at their spring levels. What double blinded study shows O2 + Carbon yielding CO2 causes global warming. What are the percentages in reaction with other gases that tip the threshold to the warming side. NO facts have been forth coming. I have been told that testing is not possible and that consensus proves global warming and climate change.
The danger of a massive class action suit exists if Cap and Trade is based on consensus. Where is the data? How can anybody evaluate if any progress has been made without it.
The IPCC UN documents are full of "might, maybe, a possible outcome" as fact. Taxation without basis (other than consensus) is wrong and should be stopped. Think of all the things we have done wrong based on fear driving consensus. It is time we have data and a clear head.
This energy tax is nothing more than a huge ponzi scheme. So, I think the best way to stop this thing is to expose who is actually benefiting from it. We all know that this will put money in the pockets of a select few and will give the feds massive control. We need to do some serious digging and find out who is really behind this thing, and what they stand to gain from it. We already know that Al Gore has amassed millions from the global warming scam and this is just an extension and huge expansion of the same concept. Start digging into the lobbyists and who they are lobbying for and what companies they represent and what each will gain. This is the bottom line. You can bet that most of the democratic senators are attached to huge financial gains. Let's face it folks, these guys come into office maybe well off but leave, (it they ever do) filthy rich. Now how do you suppose they do this? Do you really think it's on a civil service salary or a good business investment? The only way to stop this and the rest of the organized crime in Washington and around the country is to expose them for what they are, ORGANIZED CRIME. Start with checking on Pelosi and her involvement with Delmonte, the controls she implement on others while avoiding them for her investments. This is a sample of what I am talking about. It's time to stop worrying about political correctness and what repercussions you may have to suffer. This is a fight for our way of life. Obama is just getting started and look how much damage he has already done. Look how much control he has consumed and who and what he is devouring. We need to stop this before we no longer have a right to even speak.
Provide a list of every member that voted for the bill who is up for election next year - quickly! They need to be a topic at the July 4th Tea Party.
We need a bullet type LIST of specifics, how the Bill affects individuals.. specific taxes & costs and particularly 'control' issues .. especially mandated controls, like not being able to sell your house without inspection & updating to 'energy efficienct appliances / windows etc. mandates' ... people understand THAT !! It's too vague, to just present generalized facts about "increased energy rates", businesses trading carbon credits, passed on costs to consumers, opportunities for corruption (what's NEW about THAT ?!!) We need to show how this IMPACTS our individual freedoms and our personal finances!! We need it FAST, in a downloadable form to email and pass out at July 4th Freedom Rallies !!!!!!
I am a currently unemployed heavy equipment operating engineer. And I am a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE).
There could not be a more carbon intensive industry than those involved in the heavy construction trades; operation of bulldozers, graders, loaders, backhoes, excavators, road building equipment, cranes, dredges, building inspection, survey work, etc.
Founded in 1896, IUOE today has over 400,000 members in 138 local unions throughout the United States and Canada. IUOE is the 12th largest union in the AFL-CIO.
But like many unions, the international leadership is heavily "Democratic" in mind-set, and the IUOE did support Obama.
But MANY members DO NOT support the political leanings of the national officers. Most are hard-working, practical folks, whose livelihoods depend on fuel; both for the equipment they operate, as well as their private vehicles to get them to work sites. But it isn't just those of us who operate this equipment that depend on fuel; America depends on it too for the further development and protection of it's infrastructure.
Some effort to recruit from this body might prove worthwhile. The angle to get past the leadership I leave to those more experienced in these matters.

In the recent months I have contacted many Republican Leaders and Fox News Contributors. I have offered a very powerful suggetion to win over Democrats, Republicans and Independents to vote Republican in the next elections 2010 and 2012; but I have not received a response from our leaders. It is all about, "IT'S YOUR MONEY" and how all who pay into Social Security have been robbed of their money for years and years, and never thought about it. But is anyone interested enough to know how? All those to whom that I have explained it to were eager to sign up right away; if only I would send the forms. That's how eager they were to sign up. If I had the chance to speak to a group of our powerful Republican Leaders, we would all be much better off and save us all a bundle of money. We would win the 2010 and 2012 elections by a landslide; if the people only knew the truth.
One way to get people over to "our" side is to expose these charlatans for who and what they are. The media needs to get shocked back to reality and get over this adoration they have for this current flock of mobbed up Chicago polls that are running our beloved country into the ground. Get your friends and family members to watch Fox News and listen to Glenn Beck and Robert OReilly. Any one that has ever watched the progression of Acorn has to see the similarity between that organization and the current state of affairs that Mr. Acorn himself, Barack Obama, has shoved our country into.
I never thought I woulds see the day when an independent company with a board and stockholders would be taken over (illegally, I might add) by the government of the United States. This was not supposed to be able to happen! Our Constitution was supposed to have protected us from this tyranny. If a compay is teetering on the edge of bankruptcy, the company's business practices put it there. They (the company) have a responsibility to themselves to either shape up or ship out. It is a right guaranteed by the Constitution for a company to be responsiblle for it's own survival. Not the government! How arrogant! Let them fail if that's what they have to do to get through a difficult time. It is not the government's responsibility to keep a company from drowning in it's own poor business practice. No company is too large to fail. When our administration decided that a company like AGM was too important, the rest was inevitable. AGM should have been allowed to collapse under it's own waste and fraud.
It sickens me to see what is happening around me. I hope it's not too late for my beloved country to recover from this quagmire. I am saddened that my children will have to bear the burden of the beastly and illegal practices that the current administration is perpetrating upon us. Energy tax be dainged!

For those of you that do not completely understand what the “Cap and Trade” bill ultimately consists of allow me to brief you. This is a way the Government will dictate the type of light bulbs you use, if your house is insulated to their standards prior to selling, and, will dictate the amount of electricity you will be permitted to use in your own home. They plan to allot a certain amount of energy used and will set it at a certain price…..Here is the part they don’t want you to know……if you exceed the allotment you will pay an enormously inflated price. They know you will comply with their standards because you will not be able to afford the excess. IS THIS WHAT THE AMERICAN GOVERNMENT IS TO BE? This is insanity that the government is trying to “Set your thermostat from Washington!” Maybe we need Energy reform but people this is not it! Speak up and out while you can!
Please cut and paste the paragraph below and email it to your Senators quickly! We must act with a sense of urgency, for the House of Representatives has already voted “Cap and Trade” in, and now the week proceeding July 4th, the senators will be voting on it as well.
“I, as an American, and as one of YOUR constituents hold you responsible to vote according to the good of this nation and the people that occupy it, it is your duty to the people you represent to not cater to the fear and threats brought upon you. “Cap and Trade”, if implemented, will have poor effect on many generations to come. I understand that this would take a lot of organizing and ultimately goes well beyond the concept of 'how I will recruit one person', but to gain greater exposure, I think there needs to be an Energy Rally in Washington D.C. around the time that the Senate gets the House bill. It should include relevant speakers that are able to articulate the impact that this bill will have on America from the average citizen to industry.
Mr. Gingrich, who, as Speaker of the House, can detail better than anyone how the politics of this bill is pure poison, from the last minute deal-making, which in effect shows the Dems are more concerned about their own self interests than curbing global warming, to the rejection of three Republican-proposed safeguards to stem the damage to Americans caused by cap and trade legislation. I understand that not everyone is pleased with Governor Palin, BUT, she can speak about how tapping our domestic resources in Alaska will allow us to spend less on foreign sources AND create jobs, AND she would draw a crowd; the CEO of British Petroleum, if willing, or someone with knowledge of this could speak about BP's recent investment into solar energy and how they are scaling back because it is still not a viable alternative and needs further development. Also, include a climatologist or Alan Carlin, someone to illustrate to Al Gore that the debate is not over and should be discussed in a thoughtful way. Put a face on the move for reasonable solutions. Obviously, this is all wishful thinking, but it could be accomplished and would counter Obama and his townhall meetings.
