The National Energy Tax was muscled through the U.S. House by a vote of 219-212. There were 44 Democrats who decided to stand with their constituents and oppose Speaker Pelosi. There were also 8 Republicans, who voted to kill jobs. (See all the votes below the fold)Do not be discouraged. The good news is that people are now paying attention. Our mission must be to prepare for the next stage of this fight in the U.S. Senate.

This is about our jobs. This is about our economy. This is about our future. And this is about our willingness and courage to stand up to over-reaching politicians and the machine that they are trying to run in Washington, DC.

I sat and watched as they turned the knife in the body of America. I listened to the pros and cons of this with much anticipation but even with calling in it did no good. I am sorry for the Replicans but happy that some democrats got onbaord. I will continue now into the senate chambers with my voice...oh to be one of them and stand for America and not my personal reward.
I'm so depressed. I feel we really have no representation. It has become all about control/power with absolutely no concern for constituents rights or liberty. I'll keep signing petitions and calling my congressmen, but I really don't think they give a hoot. Hopefully for the next election, the uninformed voter will stay home!
I am more and more convinced that these new Democrats want as many Americans as possible living in poverty and ignorance, dependent upon government, Democrat Government, for food, clothing, shelter, heat, electric, cars, trucks, everything possible and more.
What is going to happen to America after the producers (taxpayers) quit working because the Democrats take too much out of their paychecks in taxes and productive work just isn't worth it anymore? Gee, that sounds like what happened to the Soviet Union.
But seriously, just who will the Democrats tax to support the extravagant Democrat spending and the lifestyles of their voters? Democrats have taken so many folks off of the tax roles, to buy their votes, and left so few of us paying taxes, to be redistributed to those on the public dole, that Democrats are going to be in a real bind to support their paid-for voters in very short order. Then what will the Democrats do? Seize property and give it to their voters?
Oops! They already did that with GM and Chrysler! The bondholders got taken and the Unions got 55%! This stuff used to be illegal but not under these New Democrats.

Gina and Robert, there is hope on the horizon. Americans tend to forget transgressions relatively fast. It does not matter what party those who voted for this bill are in, if they voted for this bill, we vote them out of office for not doing their jobs. Do you think our representatives will take their jobs more seriously (and actually read the bills) if they have some accountability from us their employer.

What a sad day for America. All I can say is the American people had better wake-up and start fighting for this country, and I mean quickly, or O'bama and the Democrats are rapidly going to destroy this country. They are systematically, like a Blitzkrieg, moving this country into Fascism and Statism. I wouldn't have believed it were possible if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. I see the possibility of Americans rising up and supporting a Revolution in our very near future if this madness doesn't stop.

I was skeptical in thinking my voice would heard also until I scrolled down the list of names on the Naes and Yeas, but that was all laid to rest when I saw that John Barrows name was listed under the NAES! A died in the wool south Ga democrat voted NO!...thank God!
Hang in there all! I was so upset at all of the coverage over Michael jackson while this was going on. I watched also on C-span and it was amazing! We do not matter to our elected officials they feel that by the time this chicken comes home to roost and WE the American people pay the price they will be sitting in their nice cushy office courtesy of whatever organization they sold us out for!
Have heart! There are more and more of us today, what we need to do is hold them accountable becuase they sure do not think we are watching. Call all of the republicans that voted for this bill, have your friends call if they "represent" your district let them know you will remember this come re-election time. We can take our county back!!!! but its going to take a group effort we cannot do this on our own but together we can.

This vote was pathetic but we must be stronger and out last them. We are in the early days of this fight, its going to be tough because we are fighting so many special interests and unions, but there are more of us and thanks to organizations such as American Solutions we can band together and show our governemnt we are larger and greater in number than they think!
I have written soem of the Republicans who said yes and the otehrs I took down their phone numbers in Washington. I am calling them this week to let them know we are watching and whatever it takes to get them out we will. I will contribute funds to opponents of these 7 men and 1 women.
I will also be doing the polar opposite and calling many of the Democrats and thanking them for voting against this bill, we can have our differences but when something is so blatantly obvious and bad for America and its people they need to do what is right.
Its so wrong on so many levels, teh science isn't there, CBO and MIT came out with stagering numbers of what it will cost this country in money and job loss. Well my congressman Bob Ethridge voted for it and now I am on the personal mission to get rid of him. I don't care that he is one of the good ole boys he will soon know what this good ole girl thinks of him. I will be going door to door between now and time for he to run again doing everything in my power to be sure everyone knows why they are paying more for well basically everything since it all goes up when the energy costs go up.
Frankly, I think the only way out of this mess is to throw the Federal Crooks out... What I mean is that we have to push states rights and hold the Feds. to the powers that the constitution granted them. If it comes down to explaining to the Feds. what words mean let's spell it out for them. Let's leave nothing up for interpretation. I get so frustrated with the fact that more people don't understand the impact government has on us. It simply can't be ignored or left unattended.
We must take a stand and try to educate the uneducated voter. A daunting task, I'm afraid to say. I applaud all of you who are taking on the mission of ridding congress of the lemmings. My congressman voted against this legislation, but there is one rep in a different district who voted for it when he should have know better. However, he only votes along party lines rather than for what is right. It'll be tough to unseat him because of the district's demographics, but I will do my best to educate the people who voted for this idiot.
I live in a congressional district with virtually no loyal opposition party, and very low voter participation. I call Silvestre Reyes about 2 times per week. His office has quit sending me the form letter reply! I am so frustrated I can't stand it. I have called him out I dont know how many times in local letters to the editor. UGH! At least my 2 senators are conservatives. In 2 yrs we wont even recognize our country. Our only hope is 2010.
We can still fight this time for it to move on to the senate so lets let them know what we think !!!! Maybe we can get it defeated there?
I think the only way we as Americans can change the direction of this country is to vote out every incumbent in office. You may think that it is "throwing out the baby with the bath water" but we need to send a clear and loud message that we will not tolerate this any longer. Since we don't have term limits and our elected reps aren't about to vote for a bill that would provide for term limits we need to limit terms ourselves in the voting booth.
Connie I agree we need to help defeat every Dem incumbent in office in and around your districts. I plan to send money to their opponets and help put out signs (even though they are out of my district here in Texas).

This has been going on since the election. What we have is the Chicago thugs running the country. Acorn has changed their name so has to confuse the people. We
need to have a revolt and remove these socialists from their power positions. You will notice the appointments by the President have all been crooks or from the Chicago underground. "TAX CHEATS"
When are we going to wake up and rid the country of these bums? We can not even find out weather the president is a confirmed citizen, which I doubt. Why will he not produce a birth record? He knows he is an impostor and we can't do a thing about it. He just keeps laughing in our face!!!!

OK...I am now angry enough to take action!!! I tried to call several times on Friday, even though I was out of town on vacation. Could never get through. I have the info on my senators now and will WRITE, CALL and email them. I am so frustrated over this vote, I join others who want to tell the bums we are watching and we WILL hold them accountable, Dems or Repubs, by doing all we can to make them listen to us!!!
I am an american born in Cuba (cuaban-american). I came to this country when 1 was 3 years old. I know this is the greatest country I understand from my family's stories the harm and destruction that a communist or totalitarion government can do. But I feel that our government has lost thier way and are no longer looking out for the United States or the american people. The Cap and Trade Bill is one of the worst pieces of legislation that I think could bring this country to its knees as well as add tremendously to in already bloated government. I tried contacting all the members of congress in Florida. My representative Mario Diaz Balart is against the Bill. I have come to the realization that calling Congress is useless. They no longer listen to the people. I believe all of the republican representatives in Florida were against the Bill and we did not have enough Republicans in the house to stop the Bill. The Democrats are not listening to the people and only listening to special interests,i.e, G.E., and other supposed enviromental interests which I am sure all revolves around money (always follow the money).
What can we do now...here are a few thoughts...call out all of the Republicans that voted for this ludacris Bill. It is not possible to be a republican and to agree with this bloated flawed piece of legislation. Secondly, I was watching C-Span when a Republican was reading parts from the Bill. It was insane no one in their right mind could hear this stuff and think that it was reasonable. Third we need to make a huge showing at the next Tea Party rally perhaps this will help some lawmakers see that the people have had enough.
To pass this Bill in our present economic condition is insane.
I want to help stop this Bill. Where do we go from here?
From what I'm gathering on the conservative blog "Hot Air", patriots of this country are getting so fed up with our Constitutional rights being taken from us, that there is a growing movement in this country for another Revolution. Perhaps it's time to start developing a Re-Constitutional Convention to take back the limited powers that were given to Government by our founding fathers. They warned us that if Government became to drunk with power by suppressing the will of the people, taking away their rights to Property, Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness that government could be taken back by the people. I believe that the time is now to start this discussion with the American people.
The Democrats along with some of the Republicans, are moving this country away from Capitalism and rapidly toward Fascism and Statism. If WE THE PEOPLE do not take steps to take this country back, our NEW Country that is quickly being remade by the Democratic Party will inslave us all. The O'bama administration, along with their Democratic minions are bankrupting this country with MASSIVE DEBT, while saddling all of us with the responsibility of paying for it. The country that our Founding Fathers gifted to us and fought and died for, is quickly slipping away while the American people are asleep, like thieves in the night. Sadly, when the American people finally awake from their slumber, it will be too late if we don't start acting now. The American People have to wake up and say "STOP THIS MADNESS NOW!!!"
I think that people like Newt should be addressing the issue that this government is the peoples government, NOT the DEMOCRATS OR THE REPUBLICANS GOVERNMENT...IT'S THE PEOPLES GOVERNMENT. We have to all stand up and say ENOUGH !! The government is suppressing the people, our rights are being taken from us, the government has an insatiable appetite for our hard earned labor. This will never end unless WE THE PEOPLE STAND UP AND SAY "NO MORE" !! I believe it's time to dismantle this BEMOTH GOVERNMENT THAT'S INSLAVING OUR PEOPLE AND START ALL OVER AGAIN. This time, we need to defang our Government, take away it's power to inslave us, severely limit it's size, and add to our NEW Constitution that there be a SEPARATION of "Government and Commerce". Government should not be able to own companies and should not be able to compete against American Business. If we don't start acting now, we will lose this wonderful country and what ever freedom and liberty that is left to us. GOD HELP US ALL.

We have come to the realization that we are experiencing exactly what our forefathers experienced - 'Taxation without Representation!" I spent two days calling and calling to request a no vote to the representatives. Most of them would not answer their phones - one secretary said, "It's not a tax increase." Don't they realize the "Silent Majority" is not Silent anymore - they are toast! Many congressional and senatorial districts are well gerrymandered and controlled by the incumbent, which means we must FIND and SUPPORT someone in the district to oppose the incumbents. The opposition is there, it simply must be sought out, encouraged and supported. My congressman, Michael Burgess (Dist. 26) was a medical doctor who finally got fed up with government intervention of his profession and thus, ran for the House seat and has been doing an excellent job in Congress ever since. Look to your local and state representatives who have a proven “conservative” track record, perhaps they can be encouraged to take on the Washington elite, or at the very least, provide some leadership and support.
If like me, you are lucky enough to have good representation in Congress, then seek out those who need help defeating their “non-responsive congressman” and support them with letters, phone-banks, and money. Make no mistake, it takes BIG money to defeat the lobby/union machines which back the Washington incumbents.
We can, we must, and we will do this; our Nation and our Children are depending upon us!

Call your Congressman and Senator in your State and tell them the proposed
Cap and Trade Tax will be extremely harmful to our economy and future
growth. This is not CAP and Trade it is CAP AND TAX, just another excuse
for our government to put Washington in charge of everything; e.g. the
Automobile Industry, Financial Institutions, Insurance Industry and yes even
Private Company compensation.
Tell them that you are sick and tired of seeing bills signed without reading
them, sick and tired of them thinking they no better than us, sick and tired
of being treated as if we were children, sick and tired of people that hide
money in freezers, cheat on taxes or pay none at all, spend money on useless
projects, have affairs with interns, release Government secrets to the
press, lie about monies they have in other countries, demand private jets
for their own use, divert campaign monies for their own personal use,
engaged in a quid pro quo with a suspected Israeli agents, lie about not
knowing about AIG bailout monies, lie about Fannie and Freddie, cover up
after cover up to protect their political career and personal gain.
Tell them we are watching and that tyranny has clay feet. We are not
misfits, right wing extremist, to be scoffed at and ridiculed. We are
Americans just asking for a FAIR shake and for what is RIGHT !
Oncne again the politicans of the day show that they are more interested in thier policy agenda [the bankrupting of America]. The restructuring of freedom to total gov. reliance for our sustanance. Glenn Beck in his new book "Common Sense" say's we need to take a MLK type of non-violent move on these idiots, I beg to differ, we haven't the time! Glenn Beck had an enlightening segment Friday on who stands to gain on the Cap & Trade. If this were the private sector, people would be taken away in shackles for insider trading. This carbon swap is now to be a big business (and you thought Al Gore wanted to save the planet out of the goodness of his heart).
I'm hoping, if he hasn't already done so, Beck puts that part of the segment on YouTube. Meanwhile, others need to make it clear to the public just what the impact is on their lives as well as how the good old boys are rewarding themselves with this new kick-back scheme.

I feel helpless in this fight to stop the destructin of our country by Obama and his socialistic congress. I know how both my U.S. Senators and four of our U.S. Congressmen will vote but I have no influence over the rest of the memebers of congress because I am not from their state. We only have one democrat in our congressional delegation. He sometimes votes with the rest of our delegation but not all the time. The only way I know to beat Obama is to fight fire with fire. Do some community organizing just like he did. Big problem...the people who elected Obama and the democrat congress fell for his pie in the sky and they were promised utopia and they believed the lie. Then they went back to their old routine expecting that he would take care of them. I don't think they have woke up to the fact that he forgot them the minute he was crowned king. The people who voted for him....a great many of them....had never voted in their lives. And probably won't vote again unless Acorn gets hold of them again, which they will do because they know they will need the votes. We have to beat the bushes and do what Acorn did...I'm not advocating paying them to register and vote only try to make them understand that Obama is not their savior. Educate them if that is possible. What that means is that we have to get out in the streets and go house to house and talk to people. E-mail everyone you know and try to get them active. I used to do all that only I didn't have e-mail. I had a telephone and I went door to door campaigning for candidates that I supported. I did a lot of "cold calling." I live in Oklahoma. We are the only state in the Union that not one county went for Obama. We are a small state compared to a lot of states. It will take a lot of hard work and dedication to pull us out of the fire. We are in a lot of trouble folks. It will take a lot of fire in the belly and determination not to lose to win the elections in 2010. We can change congress but it won't be easy. We need to get rid of Acorn. That is a big big problem for us. They are under investigation but I don't know that anything will come of it. They stole the election for Obama because of their underhanded tacticts. Now they are doing the census. that's another whole can of worms.
Don't fret fellow Americans. I was sad too at first, then I realized that today I have never been more proud to be an American, and I have never wanted to fight for anything the way that I want to fight for your freedoms as well as my own. I'm taking as many friends as I can to a Tea Party next week and hope you will do the same. We are not alone and we need to remember that. I got a one-two punch this week. I live in NY and am self-employed. Just got hit with yet another income tax - this one to subsidize the NYC Metropolitan Transportation Authority. I don't live in NYC and I don't use any form of MTA transportation!!! Now I am paying for other people to commute on a system that is famous for waste. Where will this end?

"Knee-Cap & Enslave"
I have really been doing some intense study into where else in the world I could move and escape from the flood of socialism which is drowning our Nation with the speed of heat. I have narrowed the list to two places... Australia or Israel. Now, when I speak of "escape", I'm not just talking about a temporary relocation. No, no, no... I am talking about emigrating to another country with which I can thrive without the yolk of federal tyranny... I'm talking about becoming a citizen of a new land and renouncing my American citizenship. Why? Because until you renounce your American citizenship you will still have the long-knives of the Internal Revenue Service slicing and shredding your flesh from your bone.
And then it happened... Yesterday... At 19:17 hours Eastern Daylight Savings Time... The US House of Representatives committed a heinous act of treason through their votes for HR 2454, "American Clean Energy and Security Act"... Or, more commonly known as "Cap & Trade"... Or, more accurately referred to as "Knee-Cap & Enslave". This legislative act of treason passed on a vote of 219-212, with eight Republicans voting "yea". Had those "RINOs" voted "nay" then I would not be posting this piece today.
The following "COWARDS" betrayed the American people, and their oath to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC. I sent the following message to each of them, appropriately personalized...

I watched your vote yesterday on HR 2454... SHAMEFUL! An absolute betrayal of the people of the United States of America!
Yesterday evening was the most sad; most disappointing; most embarrassing and shameful moment in our nation’s history during the past 100 years.
Yes, you heard me right! And that includes surpassing the shame of Watergate; the terrorist attack of September 11th; the attack on Pearl Harbor; the retreat with our tail between our legs from Saigon; the election of Jimmy Carter and the taking of American hostages by Iran; the brutal betrayal of a potentially vital ally in Southeast Asia in the person of Ho Chi Minh by Franklin Roosevelt… The list goes on, and on, and on, and on….. And the time has come for all real Patriots to step forward to put an immediate halt to you & your ilk’s seditious acts.
Be forewarned that resources are being marshalled, even as you read this message, to target you; along with Representatives Castle, Kirk, Lance, LoBiondo, McHugh, Reichert and Smith from New Jersey, for ouster from office in 2010.

I agree Dennis. These guys need to be voted out, along with a lot of others. I belong to a Glenn Beck We Surround Them group in Tomball, Texas. We are networking with other like-minded groups in the state to get the message out and get rid of those representatives not doing their jobs. I encourage everyone to join a local political group. The more voices we have, the better chance they will listen. And if they don't, then we hopefully have the numbers to vote them out. There's not a nickel's worth of difference in most Republicans and Democrats. We need true conservatives to lead the way. Educating people about what their representatives are doing is essential. But I am very encouraged. Every day more and more people are becoming active and every day they are getting angrier.

Notice they all serve on different committees. We all know there are dozens of different committees in the House. But still I wonder what was promised to them for voting yea. Could they have been promised more influence in each of the positions..? Maybe not. But the question still arises…why did these individuals vote against the wishes of the very people who put you in office..?
The final vote was 219 yeas and 212 nays. Had these "Elite Eight" voted according to their constituents wishes vs. their own potential political gain, the vote would have been 211 yeas and 220 nays. But we didn’t need all 8 to vote correctly. We only needed 4. If only 4 had voted nay, the final tally would have been 215 yeas and 216 nays. I chuckle at the thought of the political turmoil Ms. Pelosi would have suffered over losing by 1 single vote.
Speaker Pelosi stated to the House before the vote was cast, “… just remember these four words for what this legislation means: jobs, jobs, jobs, and jobs. Let’s vote for jobs.” She forgot to finish each phrase, in China, in China, in China, in China. Obviously, she and all who voted to pass this legislation didn’t think very far into the future or even use common sense. Not only will the American people be taxed so much they’ll feel “out of business”, but our major employers will be “moving out their business” to countries that don’t even care about clean air, let alone tax upon it. It will have nothing to do about anti-patriotism. It will simply be a financial business decision.
Because of all the ludicrous bills that have been passed since January 20th, especially this Cap & Trade Act, never in my 60 years of walking this Earth have I felt more compelled to be part of the political activist movement. To state it plain and simple, I fear for the future of my Grandkids.
Term limits need to be imposed on all Federal, state and local sections of the Government. The Politians say by voting that term limits apply, but that is not true. The unpopularity by much of the country believes that Harry Reed, Nancy Pelosi, Barbara Boxer and Diane Feinstein to name a few are a prime example. Only those people in those states can vote for them. They only vote for what is promiced by their canidate. Term limits would help stop all the corruption in office.
Remember, they are there to serve our interests. I for one am past tired of their lawlessness!
I could not agree with you more. I am planning on attending a Tea Party in fron of the South Bend, Ind Courthouse tomorrow to protest the upcoming Health Care Plan. I have worked for the last 8 years to furnish health care for myself and my husband and I will be damned if I lose this coverage for some single payer health care, that will absolutely ruin our health care system. Say goodby to up and coming Doctors that could lead to cures of cancers, and other deadly diseases.
I would also like to add that it is my belief that every single politician in Washington should be forced to run their offices like a small business. That is, pay for their own postage, health care, traveling, political advertisements, do what all of us who own our own businesses have to do. Stay within a budget. Let them see how incredibly hard it is to be in business. Have them balance their own checking accounts for a change. Pay their own property taxes, When your overdrawn see what it feels like. For once in their miserable and privelaged lives, see what it is like to work for a change. Pay taxes, fight the IRS, the state and local governments, see what each and everyone uf us have to dal with daily.
Send them a message that WE pay their salaries and perks. They are employed by us and as far as I am concerned THEY ARE ALL FIRED!!!!!!!
I urge everyone to call and follow up with their congressmen and women we all called and urged them to vote nay now let them know that we were watching and we saw how they voted and let them know that they will soon be unemployed.
My congressman John Hall D-NY voted yea he is a first time congressman I called his office before the vote on Cap and Trade to urge him to vote no but surprise surprise he voted yes. So I called his office again today to let him know that I saw how he voted and that I will work to make sure he does not get another term in office.
I urge you all to do the same thing call these idiots and let them know that we are mad as hell and watching their every move. Also don't forget to call those who voted no and let them know that they did the right thing for America and that we appreciate it.

Hi Gina, I was depressed on Friday also - I said what's the use. Then I got a good nights sleep and was re-energized the next day.
Before Friday I just went up and down the block I live on and every single person on my block signed the petition against Cap and Trade. It was a very hot day but I never felt better. I told my neighbors that I was standing up for America. That night I went to Cracker Barrel for dinner and got 5 more signatures. I'm still working on the signatures. Thursday nite before the vote I faxed the Petition with a cover letter to all of the Congressman in the Great state of Texas. This July 4th I am attending the 2nd Tea Party here. Get together with others who are against this tyrannical gov't and it will energize you. Keep calling your Congressman in your state. I called every Congressman this am - Tues - and if they voted against C&T I said TY very much. If they voted for it - I told them I would do everything I could to get them out of office! I am writing the Govenor of Texas Rick Perry and asking him if we cannot get a law passed here that would disallow ACORN from registering voters and from being anywhere close to our voting places. I do believe that each state will have to pass a simular law. We may not be able to get rid of ACORN, but we can certainly hobble them and lessen their dammage. Are you aware that when ACORN comes to take the Census that they will also be GPSing your home. This has got to stop. God bless America!

I am truly disheartened. I too feel like few people in Washington have an iota of brains. The people we send to represent us don't give a single damn about what we want, nor do some of them realize the evil they create. Cap and trade is the biggest rip-off ever dreamt up by our so-called leaders. I notice China and India are not signing up for it. They want all the industries that are willing to move there. And we're supposed to sacrifice our position on the world stage to make up for the pollution they spew in the air? We already have air ten times cleaner than that in China. I've been there. It's like a brown fog in Beijing. Give me a break. The whole cap and trade thing is hocus-pocus. Not a shred of solid science in any of it.
