The Senate version will ultimately end up much different than the House-passed version, although the central idea - a nationwide cap and trade system for carbon dioxide - will likely remain. The biggest change thus far is that the Boxer-Kerry energy tax has a stronger emissions cap requirement by 2020, meaning the cost of this measure will likely be much higher, especially in the near-term.
Other changes (which will come in the form of increased complexity and likely hundreds of additional pages) will be made because the bill faces a much tougher battle in the Senate, where virtually all Republicans and several Democrats have voiced serious concerns about the energy tax and its impact on their respective states.
For instance, Senators Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and Al Franken (D-MN) have voiced public concern about this bill's impact on American manufacturing and American jobs. The Senate delegation from West Virginia (Jay Rockefeller and Robert Byrd) have both heavily criticized the bill. Evan Bayh (D-IN), Mark Pryor (D-AR), and Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) have voiced similar concerns over the cost of the bill on consumers.
Other Democratic Senators, including Mark Warner (D-VA), Jim Webb (D-VA), Max Baucus (D-MT), Kent Conrad (D-ND), Byron Dorgan (D-ND), and Ben Nelson (D-NE), are also seen as key swing votes on the Senate energy tax.
This is very important since several Representatives have been voicing regret after voting in favor of this devastating bill, including those from states who have Senate delegations that oppose or have admitted serious shortfalls with the energy tax.

We have a Government in Place today'that is NOT in touch with the People. They are not Hearing the American People when we say NO we don't want it.It seems to me that they ALL have gone CRAZY.
How has this country become the country of Indian giving? Who lied? In the 90's California passed deregulation of energy. In 1998, Connecticut passed their laws for deregulation. What happened to all the wonderful advantages deregulation was suppose to bring the communities, the businesses, the environment? What happened to all the great jobs deregulation was suppose to bring the economy? Was all this legislation a ruse? Were these laws to much for the lay person to understand? I was certain deregulation was suppose to open up the competition with the utility companies, even the playing field giving everyone a chance to generate electricity so the grid would benefit more neighborhoods and stimulate local economies paying back the consumer. What happened? Does our government have ADHD or does it have white out memory from the consumption of too mush seroquel. There are laws to generate alternative energy that will create revenue for cummunities and small businesses. Why would we have to be taxed? this is the dog chasing its tail. If you increase taxes on energy it makes revenue benefits moot.
Well, William, I guess we are getting what we voted for.
This will be devastating with our future energy costs and we must make the democrat's in congress understand how upsetting this will be...! Write your congress members and even the President and tell them; stop spending our money, stop the climate change fraud and let them know that no liberal democrat's will be reelected next year and in 2012...! Wake up America...!
I think a lot of people were not voting for the kind of
change that is happening. I truly feel like we are going
to be taken back to the horse and buggy days and reading
by candlelight unless we fight. And the only way I know
of is to continue to contribute to American Solutions
and the Institue for Energy Research, etc. who can use
this money to fight these nut cases.
Boxer and Kerry have lost it! Boxer is a certifiable nut case. Kerry is still suffering from bruised ego. "they did not elect me Pres. I"ll show them" Boo Hoo - they both need to be tried for treason.
If the Health Care tax doesn't bankrupt most Americans, This tax surely will. This false "green religion" has gone too far. Next Congress will be instituting a flatulance tax. Opps! I shouldn't be giving them any ideas.
I'll repeat part of my post on another subject but applies here.
This is to tax other energy uses out of existance. This is nothing but protectionism for GE and others in the small group that backed Obama in the election directly or indirectly through the media outlets GE owns. It is returning the favor for a bribe, pure and simple. But this is not only payback for a bribe, it is one of the vehicles he is using for the largest power grab in the US history.
Notice a theme here. Get supported by an industry or a business, get protectionist laws passed in support of the hidden backers, and grab as much governmental power as possible in the process. And always in a rush to get it done, no time for reading the contents of the bill, just have to do it now, like there is some hidden time line here. Sounds like what has transpired with health care and the stimulus bill.
On a different note, has anyone ever wondered about the timing of the tightening of bankruptcy requirements which occurred just long enough before the housing bubble burst to kinda forget it. The change in bankruptcy laws were done because too many people were filing for it. Then months latter Congress freaked out about the housing bubble. Funny, no one asked why so many were filing for bankruptcy. Funny, Obama was a senator then. I wonder how much he knew and when (and for the rest of congress for that matter.) Did Obama vote for tightening of the rules? Sounds like a planned raping of America here to me.
For those who concern themself with climate change senarios, take a look at this documentary from Britian.

If you are serious, you owe it to yourselves.
Being from California I can tell you we are not being listened to. The politions think they can do what ever they want and we will forget come election time.
For one I will vote every incombent out. I believe that this is the only way to get their attension. I hate to loose the good to get rid of the bad but we have no choice.
I voted for term limits and it was thrown out so we should
revert back to 1 person 1 term.

This stuff just keeps reminding me of an account in II Chronicles 10. Rehoboam, made king after Solomon, was asked by the people to ease up on the "heavy yoke" (taxes) that Solomon had put upon the people. Instead of listening to the people and rejecting the counsel of the elders, he went with the advice given by the his young friends and decided to increase the burden on the people. In fact, he boasted, having no semblance of compassion or wisdom, that he was going to FAR EXCEED the burden and punishments enacted by his father. The result was a kingdom divided. In fact, both kingdoms, having rejected wisdom and righteousness, went into captivity and only a remnant ever came out, never again to be the great nation they were. History repeating itself.
They already wantto tax our farmers, per cow! There is nothing that you can think of that they haven't already.
If they pass the healthcare bill, healthcare will be unionized. The SEIU is waiting for this. Patrick Gaspard was the former executive vp for politics and legislation for SEIU 1199 (NY) and went on to be the political director for Obama's campaign and later was assoc. personnel director on Obama's transition team. This is all in such a tight little knot, you can't tell where one ends and another begins. I'm afraid that the Cap and Tax will end up unionizing the energy field as well. This is going to sink us, for sure!
i'm afraid that voting them out in 12 will be much to late for this country as we know it. the truth is that hussein obama is nothing but the used car salesman for the radical left, interested in his own well being only. and what ever he's been promised,an accomplished liar and snake oil salesman using the lower educated people with lies, to push the radical left's agenda.american's have sat back for years and let this happen, now our children and grand children will pay..good going america.
What's going on here? We've got a health care bill they're trying to push through 1,000 pages long that, from what I've heard in the media, not a single politition, or media person, has read and understands. Now we've got an 800 page energy tax bill that they're trying to jam down our throat. How in the @#&% can these people vote for something without reading and understanding it? It's simple. If a lawyer can't even understand it, send it back and make it clear! Stop trying to pull the wool over our eyes and maybe you'll gain back our trust.
Congress doesn't care about "we the people". They think we are too stupid to know what is best for us, for that matter, they don't really care. If we really want change, we need to start passing state legislation to protect our constitutional freedoms and fight it in the court systems all the way to the Supreme Court if need be. The federal government is overstepping its' boundaries and we've got to do something to stop them.
I'm wondering what all the "hurry" to push these policys through is about. We have tens of thousands of our military in Afganistan and there is no "hurry" on whether or not to send the requested additional troops to support the one's already over there in more danger everyday that a descision is not made. Their lives are at stake! Our precious defenders of freedom! Maybe they should all come back here and defend our freedoms here in America because it is painfully clear no one in our government is. This energy tax is just another nail in the coffin for us small business owners. If the strategy is to bankrupt the country... this IS the way to go.
I sure didn't vote for it. I don't know any who did.
Mark - We (I) am getting what someone else voted for! Even if those folks wake up to realize their mistake and experience "Buyers Remorse" it may still be too late for us all!
Not only do we need to remove most of them from office , I believe that many of them need to be tried for treason. These Congressmen and women took an oath to preserve , protect and defend the Constitution of the U.S. and many of them are doing just the opposite!. The Department of Energy was started during the Carter years to reduce the US dependence on Foreign oil. Ha-Ha. They have turned it into a boon doggle of a bureaucracy and the weenies up there refuse to drill in ANWR or the BAAKIN RESERVE not to mention off shore.
We need to get some people who have Americans in their interest not their own pockets. And these jerks call Wall Street greedy. What a bunch of loosers we havein DC
Screw Cap & Trade
Monte in CA I understand your anger I also feel that too. But by doing some homework we can weed out the phonies and keep the good ones.
One of the really good ones is Tom McClintock if any of you are being repesented by Tom please donate and vote for him. He has been very consistent with good conservative views. I have been a supporter of his since he started speaking out several years ago
Listen to this, i find this to be fitting. In Romans 1:21-23 it says: "For althoujgh they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles." This sounds like the Boxer minnow and the Poloosie frog, say huh! These folks are out of control and need to be voted out next year.
With all the issues, crisis's and blame being thrown around I believe it is crucial that a very important "blame" be recognized.
"We the People" are the "Stewards" of our Constitution, and WE have failed in our responsibility and obligation.
As citizens of the United States of America we have but one obligation, to preserve and protect the Constitution of the United States from all enemies,Foreign and DOMESTIC!!!
We must UNITE to stop and reduce the size of the Federal Government. We must restore State's rights to reflect a more positive reflection of the individuals' rights and freedoms.
There is not much time left, the elections of 2010 will set the stage for the future of our Nation. Individually,we must decide where our allegiance lies.
Do we demand elected officials who will live up to their Oath of Office (period) Or do we back people and/or parties with "pie in the sky" promises!!!
Are we ready to demand responsibility and accountability of "ourselves", of each other? Or,are we content to continue supporting and fostering a society of "Entitlements". Remember, FREEDOM is not FREE!!!
Thank you,Mr.Russell Murphy for saying exactly what I have been telling people for a long time. If the government isn't working properly,it is not only OUR job,but OUR DUTY to fix it. We have the power to make an unresponsive gov't listen to us. It's called the right to vote. I urge everyone to read the book "Original Intent" by David Barton!!! This book will tell you EXACTLY how the founding fathers wanted this gov't to operate. And believe me,what we now have is NOT what the fathers had in mind. Far from it! And it is our fault for letting this happen. But even though we allowed it to happen WE can still fix it. There is power in numbers.POWER TO THE PEOPLE!!!!!!!
Don't forget Obama's wanting his Ameri Corp! Why does he want it "as well funded and as well trained as our military"?( his words not mine). Our military cannot and will not take up arms against United States citizens. Some Foregin Leaders have already brought up Obama needs to be our leader from now on. Just invision this, on Obama's birthday a parade down Pa. Ave. with the Ameri Corp marching in lock step with Oboma looking on from the roof of the White House.
Why, oh why, is this Administration so intent...so VERY intent....on destroying America. It's like they're all out on a tree limb sawing it off between the trunk and themselves!! It absolutely baffles me.
Energy taxes will punish the less fortunate. These Congressional buffoons won't even feel it in THEIR pocketbooks since they're all on the "take". They make me sick.
For myself, I just ordered a solar array with storage batteries. I'm going to do my best to minimize my reliance on the grid.
First, it was global warming, now it's climate change. So one has to ask, what about the climate do you want to change? Do you want it hotter or cooler? Then, the next question should be, how does one change the climate? Science has never been able to do that except in localized areas with cloud seeding to make it rain. If you happen to get an answer then the next question should be, how much should everyone pay for this idea of changing the climate and how much will the climate change? There is no one on earth that can answer this.
The final question, if you are intent on spending so much money, can you send the money to me? I will use it far more wisely than the government. I promise.
First of all, scientifically speaking, there is NO 'man-made global warming'; in fact, the earth is not warming at all. The last 11 years have been COLDER than the preceding 23; recent satellite imagery of Antarctica showed the LOWEST melting in 30 years of observation! Next, CO2 is NOT a 'greenhouse gas'; it makes up .038 of 1% (THIRTY EIGHT THOUSANDTHS OF ONE PERCENT) of the atmosphere. Next, the natural geological and biological processes of the earth produce THIRTY TIMES what humans do each year. Earth keeps this balanced, because plants 'inhale' CO2, and, after photosynthesis, 'exhale' O2. As of this spring, 31,478 scientists had signed the U of Oregon's petition decrying this junk science; a 1988 computer model by a third rate NASA desk jockey is NOT a valid theory, nor is it back by observation. Finally, politically, THIS LEGISLATION IS NOT ONE OF THE ~35 ENUMERATED CONSTITUTIONAL POWERS OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT; THEY HAVE NO LEGAL POWER, NO LAWFUL AUTHORITY TO PASS IT! Government, of course, has NO rights; only individuals do. Bob Anderson
