I have an idea. Yes, I am a simple housewife, but that gives me plenty of time to think--and I thought of something that would affect every political office in this country. It would make even those folks who never think--think.
We need to reach the people who most need to be educated? Those are the ones who sit on the couch and let NBC/ABC/CBS/CNN tell them what to think. Idea: short, skit-like ads on TV to draw folks a picture of how economics, national security, education, freedom, etc. work--something a little bit funny and entertaining so that they would watch and look forward to seeing more such "entertainment."
E.g., a "playlet" that shows what happens to the price of a TV when the government taxes that ugly big business that produces the TV. And a follow-up "playlet" that shows what happens to the people who work for that ugly big business when people no longer can buy that TV because of the higher price--no jobs! This would reach people who have never thought the stuff through--actually, who have never thought period. And there might be some "AH-HAH" moments that would turn on the lights in some minds full of mush.
The truly helpful thing about approaching things this way is that it would impact EVERY office up for grabs because so many people would start looking at the principles involved in every politician's aspirations. And they could see through the touchy-feely rhetoric and vote with their brain, not with their sighs and infatuations.

I have some additional suggestions for the Platform that I would propose for your consideration.
I would advocate a presidential candidate that would campaign for and promote to the nation at large, the convening of a Constitutional Convention to address the following specific items:
1) repealing the 16th amendment and institution of the Fair Tax, as described in (or in the spirit of) the book by Boortz and Linder and as proposed in the Congressional bill by Linder et al.;
2) abolition of federal pensions for all elected officials, and requiring the President and members of Congress to participate in the Social Security System, along with the average American citizen;
3) abolition of all federally funded medical insurance programs for elected officials, and requiring the President and members of Congress to participate in (and pay for) the same private programs available to the average America citizen; remove the tax deduction for employee health insurance paid by businesses and corporations, thereby forcing private citizens to obtain (and pay for) health insurance in the same manner as they do for life insurance, auto insurance, etc. This makes each citizen self-responsible, but also makes the insurers compete for the customer's business and makes the insured the "boss" of his provider;
4) institution of term limits for Congress: 10 years (or 5 elections) for representatives and 18 years (or 3 elections) for Senators;
5) a balanced budget requirement except in times of declared wars;
6) a plan to pay off the national debt in 30 years, or barring that, limiting it to a percentage of GNP;
7) privatization of all federally-owned assets - to the extent feasible - that are not Constitutionally mandated (for example, TVA);
8) prohibition of Congressional earmarks, agricultural subsidies, artistic subsidies and grants (for example, PBS and NPR), and drastically reduced research grants not related to national security and essential federal interests;
9) require strict interpretation of imminent domain regulations.
There are probably other items worthy of consideration, but it's going to be hard enough getting all these addressed, and maybe I'm over-reaching here. But we've gotten so far from the guiding principles of our Founding Fathers and their design to limit the power of government to interfere with our daily lives, that I am at a loss. I am very skeptical that Congress - whether controlled by Republicans or Democrats - can be made to consider any of the above items on their own. None of them have enough principle and integrity to recognize the corrupting influences and excesses of power to which they have succumbed. And I believe none of them would willingly participate in reforms that would result in a reduction of their personal power and
dismantling of the bureaucracy to which they have become so enamored and indebted.

My son was going into Physical Therapy, but they changed to program to a Master's to make it more difficult because there were too many people going into physical therapy and the salaries were going down.
3. Realize that govenment mandates to insurance companies to cover well care and pre-existing conditions contributed to the increase in premiums.
4. Look at how insurance money is being spent. Lots on administration of plans and pre-certification on drugs and tests. This will get much worse as the only way to control costs is to not give services.
5. The physician is just a tool in ones health. The doctor is not responsible for the choices of the individuals. Rules are progressing that put more responsibility on doctors to manage people's health. Education should be there for the individuals and then they should be responsible for their health or lack of health, not the provider.
I could go on and on, electronic records are a good idean, but becoming a nightmare.

This "Platform of the American People" would be a lot better and a lot more simple if it specifically included the Fair Tax. I recommend eliminating all the tax-related provisions in this platform and replacing them with one simple provision: The Fair Tax. Newt, please recognize The Will of the American People and adopt the Fair Tax. I won't support you otherwise.

Newt, I am really disappointed in your decision earlier to back the liberal republican in New York versus Hoffman. This plainly shows your loyalty remains with the party, not the Constitution. We need leaders, not party hacks. I appreciate your vision, but wish you had more integrity to the cause you present. The TEA party continues, and with or without republican support.
Does this really surprise anyone. Newt first ran for congress as a moderate and lost to a Democrat. He then decided to be a conservative and finally won. He can change his spots as very quickly. His past shows that he is expedient at best and dishonest in character at worst. I think we are seeing the expedient part. If he wins the Presidency in '12, I think we will see the dishonesty of character emerge. He seems to go whichever way the wind blows. Right now being a conservative is the way the wind is blowing, but I do not think he can sustain it. Mainly because his recent actions prove that he does not really believe in the conservative tea party movement. He sees it as a vehicle to election.
Adam, I have been a member of AS since the beginning. You have been promising the new and improved site for a year. I have not been here for several months and nothing has been improved. You said the changes would make the solutions section better. Where is it? Where are all the solutions your followers posted? Where is the tab that allows for individual ideas rather that just comments on topics chosen by you and your staff? The original members are very discouraged. There are two simple solutions that would correct all the suguestion listed and proposed by American Solutions.
(1)Repeal Amendment 17
(2)Repeal Public Law 62-5 of 1911 that started the demise of our Rebublic. This would re-instate the proper ratio for representation of the Congressional House, that the founders intended for this Great Republic. Article 4 section 4...guarantee's a Republican Form of Government... refer to the Federalist papers 52 thru 56 (I think... it is close, might be off a couple pages)
One issue that might help and many may think it is comming from a racist point of view,which is not , is to consider raising the apreciation of what it means to be an American Citizen .
I am a naturalized citizen and I am proud of it because it was a goal I set myself to obtain since I was in first gradein an American school ,in the middle of the Colobian jungle,in an oil camp owened by Standard Oil Company. The president at that time Einsenhower.
It took me almost 50 years to fullfill that dream that as a child was embedded in me by taking the Pleadge of Aligence every day.
Now that I see how the abuse of taking an oath to become a citizen without even speaking the language or really knowing the history and sacrifices made to build this nation.Taking an oath that is meaningless to them, that with that oath they recieve the material benefits that htey are looking for period. Their real alligense is elsewhere.
Their should be a moratorium on granting citizenship in these times, at least 20 years before you have the right to it . This will in turn ,I think motivate politians to reconsider the real border issue and not the prize of having x amount of votes. That would be one side it.
