The Daily Solution: What Will You Do Over August Recess?

By Adam Waldeck on August 3, 2009 10:24 AM
August recess has just begun, and you can expect to see your representatives back home to talk about what's going on in Washington, to get your feedback, and to sell their various policy prescriptions.

There's a lot at stake, and we are going to have to fight hard on a lot of fronts.

So, the question is, what will you be doing to keep up the pressure on your representatives over August recess?

And what can we provide you with that you would find helpful?

I plan to call my Congressman and Senators again. If they have townhall meetings, I am planning on attending. I am planning to attend the Recess Rally on the 22nd. I have voiced my concerns to my State Senate Majority Leader. I am trying to raise awareness about the Health Care Reform and encouraging others to voice their opinions. Also, I am going to read as much of the bill as I can, but I must admit, it isn't easy to read.

Here in NJ... we are organizing people to attend the few town halls meetings that have been set up, as well as counter the Pro-Obamacare rallies being held at various state fairs and meetings. We're getting the word out through all the various tea party email contacts with sample letters and contact information for our representatives and Senators and writing, calling & faxing them CONSTANTLY to make sure our voices are heard!!!!

We are holding a big rally in Oceanside, CA, about 30 miles north of San Diego. Our last rally attracted 5,000 protesters. For details visit. http://www.stoptaxingus.com/rallies

I have written an editorial for both of the newspapers in my town and will monitor to see that they publish them. If you want a 10 page analysis of the house healthcare bill go to this site:

Chris Dodd just announced he has Prostrate Cancer and has elected to have surgery to remove it. Statistically those who develop Prostrate Cancer at 65 die of old age long before the cancer becomes fatal. In countries like Canada and England, where they have health care systems similar to the one being proposed by Congress, which require health care rationing, deny procedures that are statically not required. Is it any wonder Congress exempted itself in the current bill? Thanks for nothing Chris.

I experienced the health care system in England in the early 90s when my wife had to go to an emergency room for care. She ended up on a ward in a major hospital until we could get her transferred to a military hospital. It was not impressive; they used a single thermometer, rinsed in alcohol between patients, to take temperatures. We were not impressed and greatly relieved when we were able to get her to the military hospital.

I am actively contacting my congressmen encouraging them not to support the current Health Care legislation; especially, if it fails to address the major reasons for high health care costs. The unnecessary “test and procedures” and high malpractice insurance rates; requiring tort reform. I encourage all to do the same!

In Las Vegas, we have several TEA Party/Protest events planned. We are Protesting at the Aug. 10th Energy Summit being hosted by Harry Reid and Al Gore at the UNLV Thomas and Mack Event Center. and then at our two members of Congress, Titus & Berkley, on Aug. 22nd. Senator Reid's office will get a visit too. Several local meet-up groups are coming together for this. There is power in numbers! It is time to hit the streets and let our voices be heard.

How about publishing a list of town hall meetings. So we know where we can meet out public officials and express our opinions.

Daily writing emails, calling legislators, attending town hall mtgs if possible.

I am going to ask our local leadership to make sure this year's Senate climate change legislation meets the standard set by last year's bipartisan Lieberman-Warner climate bill, and allocates 5 percent of any revenue to begin helping the world's poorest people overcome the threats posed by climate change.

I attended a Town Hall Meeting in the Congressional District adjacent to mine, and have requested info from my Congressman's (Barrow - GA) office about any Town Hall Meetings in our district.

I'm educating myself on the issues coming before Congress in Sept., and talking with and e-mailing family, friends and people I come in contact with - small business owners, clerks and other customers about these issues and what we can do to get Washington to listen.

I have also made my reservations for the Taxpayer's March on Washington on Sept. 12.

I have my congressman's and senstor's local phone number save on my cell phone. I call them all the time to let them know my feelings on issues that concern me. I listen to AFA talk radio while I work to keep abreast of these issues and will stop and call my elected officals when I hear something that concerns me. I try to call them asap so don't forget to do it.

I also call them to thank them when their vote is in keeping with my views or let them know of my disappointment when it isn't

It became difficult to keep track of the hundreds of Tea Parties. Similarly, it will be overwhelming to try to keep track of all the local public appearances (not just town hall events) at which members of Congress can be found this fall to express concern about their actions.

It might be useful to have a simple map tool (somewhat like what FreedomWorks and others tried to do for the Tea Parties) to find links to the public event calendars of members of Congress (or candidates). The event information is often available on their official websites (or campaign sites), but not in any consistent way, so a simple tool could be useful.

I already set up a custom search tool for various Tea Party websites, as well as Republican Senators, Governors, and House members to research any issues. These are at www.SurgeUSA.org

I am tired of preaching to the choir. My family and friend feel the same as I do and have from the beginning. So many people work long hours, are very busy, and they are just not informed; so, I plan on informing them one at a time. I set aside one hour a day to call in areas that are likely to be pro-health care simply because they are unaware of what is happening. Hopefully and prayerfully, everyone that I gently enlighten will speak out and enlighten others in their area. [having unlimited long distance opens up all of American] I do have a prepared opening statement and topic statements. If we plan on winning, we must get outside of the choir.

I cannot find where my congressman is planning a town meeting. I also heard that some representatives do not plan on holding town hall meetings because of the negative town hall meetings other congressmen have encounter. However, they have dubbed us as AstroTurf and manufactured anger. Well my anger is real and no insurance company has contacted me. Since they want to dismiss us just as they have not listened to us, I decided there is a way to make my voice heard every day, everywhere I may go. I put my message about health care on my car's rear window with white washable shoe polish. I intend to change my message weekly or daily possibly to let my politicians and mainstream media know where I stand. I would like to encourage others to do the same. The more cars with a message on the rear window will send a message to everyone. [the uniformed, the media, the politicians, and support to others who believe the same as you]

I also put a message on my clothes with fabric paint. Fabric paint comes in various forms. The one I like is the fabric pen. It is the easiest to use and dries fast. I do not leave my house without a message on my clothes. You would be amazed how many people want to talk to you about your message. Both those who support your message and those you don't understand your message. So far I have not had those who oppose my messages. [however, it may be coming]

I have a shed on the corner of my lot, and I am going to paint a message on it. This all may seem small things to do, but I believe if enough people do them, changes can be made in a big way. This is too important....our sovereignty is at stake.

Take Courage

by Edward Jack Smith
Poet Laureate of Dorchester County, SC

I bought this land with patriot’s blood
when the British didn’t want to sell it.
I know the truth about Liberty,
and without me, no one dare tell it.
I heard the cries like an anthem rise
from those who were bound as slaves.
I sang their dirges in mournful moans
as their martyrs were laid in their graves.
Through horrors of wars, and wars of the world,
soldiers carried me at their breast
to face the fury of the fiercest fight
as their flesh was torn from their chest.
Once again your freedom is threatened,
but by those you elected to lead.
Now is the time to either lift your voice,
or to watch while your children bleed.
Washington, like King Louie’s court,
has become so condescending.
They live in lavish luxury
while your children’s future they’re spending.
I am courage, and my name is Valor.
My home is in the hearts of the free.
Oh, wake up now silent America,
step up and stand behind me!
Scream, “Enough is enough!” and mean it.
Show your anger and grind your teeth.
Throw off their yoke of taxation,
before it becomes your funeral wreath.

I believe I will spend my time sharing with people in my district that voting Republican is NOT the answer. Remember the Contract w America when Rep's had the majority in both the House and Senate... yet we still did not get a Balanced Budget Amendment, or Term Limits. I say it is time to throw them ALL out. And GOOOH can do just that!

GOOOH stands for 'Get Out of Our House' and is pronounced like the word 'go'. It is a NON-PARTISAN plan to evict the 435 career politicians in the U.S. House of Representatives and replace them with everyday Americans just like you, perhaps even you.

Join GOOOH.com today and become part of the solution to send true representatives of the people to Washington and kick the career politicians out!

Healthcare solutions:

The Democrats have a very long record of driving up the unit cost of government programs to pay off their supporters while rationing services or overspending to control overall expenses. The recipients are never their primary concern. The wasteful management of Medicare, Medicaid, and the VA prove what we could expect from their socialized medicine. Rationed healthcare would be a powerful tool for cutting down the Social Security recipients. Do they target our religion because our religion gives more value to human life because we believe in humans uniquely having a soul—a soul that should not be extinguished by bureaucratic whim?

Serious healthcare reform must follow the following basic steps:
• No omnibus legislation
• Attack each issue with separate legislation that the legislators and the public can easily read and understand
• Sharply curtail or eliminate civil actions, and replace them with nationally revoking licensee's and criminal prosecution where appropriate. The cost of civil tort action is totally passed down to the patients in higher costs and limited availability of services. New medical developments are discouraged.
• Allow patients to purchase medical damage insurance for specific procedures or as general protection.
• Work with the healthcare industry to optimize procedures for health maintenance and medical treatment.
• Lighten physician and emergency room loads with nurse staffed local clinics that are computer linked to higher level assistance
• Provide medical "taxis" for routine medical transport instead of costly ambulances and helicopters where appropriate.
• Assist and reform healthcare education to make it much more affordable and practical for individuals. Offer free medical courses on the internet for students and practicing professionals.

I have some personal experience with the Canadian health care system. My father, a Canadian age 80+, entered a Toronto hospital for a simple, straightforward knee replacement because it was very painful for him to kneel down to work which he was still doing. Fourteen operations under general anaesthetic and two years later he walked with a stiff leg for the last 10 years of his life due to surgical placement in his leg of a titanium rod about 36" long after extensive surgery and removal of his knee joint to cure the infections he contracted in hospital. That leg was 3 inches shorter permanently after surgery. My concern and frustration centered around the bureaucratic response and total absence of recourse, accountability and compensation for his pain and suffering and loss of enjoyment for the last twelve years of his life. I would willingly devote all my energy to block passage of ANY PART of the proposed democrat health bill. In my view this bill should be called what it is - a bill to control every American.

I will continue to email and phone my senators and congresswoman to reject government (public option/coop et al) run health care and to keep our current health care/insurance system with proper reforms such as portability, pooling of insurance for small businesses, purchase across state lines, tort reform (or at least a panel of doctors to review merits of a lawsuit before it can be filed) etc. I also tweet and reference items on health care and cap and trade to inform people of work done by Heritage Foundation, Liberty Counsel etc. to get the true information out about both the health care and cap and trade bills that must be rejected. Too many issues at once with this Obama administration.

I have joined Change the Congress in 2010. It is a growing group...of over 5000 in less than 30 days. Please check out this website and let others know about it. Our goal is to reach 40,000,000 as soon as possible. The website is:

"Too many issues at once with this Obama administration". Yes, yes...it's crazy that we have a President who is working so hard for what he thinks will help people who actually need help. He should stop all this ridiculous hard work and spend some time at his ranch or at his vacation home. Or maybe he should spend his time pressuring his people to falsely raise the terror alerts to gain popularity by praying on the fragile nature of our collective psyche. Maybe he should work harder on creating false information about a Middle East country so we can invade them and kill thousands of innocent bystanders and our own troops. Maybe he should spend more time torturing people illegally imprisoned to get information about nothing of consequence. And he should spend more time working hard on ignoring the ridiculous things going on in the financial world and figuring out how to point the finger at everyone but himself and his own people he hired to help him. And after working hard on all of this, which undoubtedly will make us a better, stronger country, he should deny any of it ever happened and ride off into the sunset leaving us with our pants down and grabbing our ankles.
